End Of 2006
December 22nd, 2006
Just a quick post. I attended my work’s XMAS party yesterday and it was a great day. We had a nice lunch and a cruise on the harbour in Sydney. Shame every day isn’t close to this but enjoy it while you can.
Anyway, this will most likely be the last post for 2006. I am off for two weeks worth of holidays and I am looking forward to it very much. But before I go, I will sum up how I remember 2006 in a few points.
- Steve Irwin (Wildlife Crusader) and Richard Carleton (News Reporter) both died at the scene of doing what they both loved.
- Yellow Wiggle Greg Page, who had to hand his skivvy over in November to his understudy, Sam Moran, after being diagnosed with a chronic heart condition.
- We could not believe the incredible survival of two miners, Todd Russell and Brant Webb, trapped for 14 days in May in a steel cage after a mine collapse in Beaconsfield in northern Tasmania.
- Cyclone Larry smashed the far north Queensland coast in March. Its destructive winds flattened Innisfail and all the bananas with it, put the price up to $15 a bunch.
- North Korea performed its first underground nuclear test in October, ignoring international condemnation and threats of further sanctions
- Australia’s farmers and cities battled on amid the worst drought in years. We need to take action now to preserve the dwindling water resources and reduce climate change.
- Brisbane Broncos and West Coast Eagles won the finals of their respective codes. Liverpool won the FA Cup in May.
- And who can forget that dive in the World Cup in the Australia vs Italy game…….
